HORSES

Horses are athletes. And just like human athletes in any discipline, in order to perform at their optimum they need adequate rest, healthy diet (specific to the demands of their discipline), nutritional supplementation as appropriate and a regular regime of stretching and muscular & skeletal maintenance in order to PREVENT injury or disease

Equine athletic performance often places the whole body under stress. Ligaments and muscles are under strain and the heart and lungs have to work harder than normal. The nervous system is required to work harder than normal and cells are metabolizing at a faster rate.
(You know yourself how a day’s unaccustomed or over-strenuous activity can adversely affect your body for a week or more!)

When muscles are fatigued and joints are loaded, injury is more likely to occur. If you expect the best from your horse and wish it to perform at a consistently high level, regular treatment may be helpful to prevent injury and to maintain peak physical fitness

But whether you are at the top of your equestrian discipline, striving to reach that spot, or simply enjoying the unique pleasure of owning, riding and developing a relationship with a horse, you will find that expert assessment and treatment by the CEAT team in either Laser Acupuncture or Chiropractic will have far reaching health and performance benefits, and will profoundly affect your horse’s gait, enthusiasm, stamina and paces

Any of the following may indicate that your Horse needs treatment:

  • Gait abnormalities – lameness, uneven, stumbling
  • Poor race performance
  • Swelling & inflammation
  • Stiffness / poor lateral bending
  • High or low head carriage
  • Bucking
  • Head tossing or shaking
  • Injuries – fall, slip, cast
  • Period pain - mares
  • Enhancing fertility
  • Injuries – fall, slip, cast
  • Change in posture or conformation
  • Difficulty collecting
  • Refusing jumps
  • Difficulty standing square
  • Change in behaviour
  • A poor fitting saddle

Chiropractic and Laser Acupuncture techniques can help with a wide range of ailments including:

  • back and neck pain
  • tendon injuries
  • torn muscles
  • joint pain
  • tying-up
  • azoturia / “Monday morning disease”
  • tender girth
  • respiratory disorders
  • neurological disorders
  • gastrointestinal problems
  • reproductive disorders

Foals, weanlings and yearlings need to be assessed for spinal and joint misalignments. During the birthing process the spine can be injured, and research has found that 2% of foals can fracture or break a rib whilst being born. Often what appears to be conformational faults can be corrected by Chiropractic and Acupuncture treatment within the initial stages of the growth period

CEAT NZ’s treatment modalities enhance performance, heal injuries fast and effectively and help prevent injuries with regular treatment

FARM ANIMALS
In a similar way to humans and horses, cattle can very easily sufffer from musculoskeletal problems that can affect their health. Working bulls with pelvic problems have been helped through chiropractic adjustment.

In the same way that chiropractic during pregnancy and after birth can prevent problems in humans, it has been found that cows benefit from adjustment. A "Downer Cow" can be caused by a variety of problems, but where calving has caused motion restrctions in the lumbar and sacropelvic regions resulting in limb weakness & ataxia (from Greek ataxiÇ , meaning disorder -is unsteady and clumsy motion of the limbs or trunk due to a failure of the fine coordination of muscle movements) chiropractic has be shown to be of great benefit.

We have successfully treated lambs who have had trauma to their necks at birth, who before treatment had difficulty in getting round the paddock
